Sometimes, this is what being a writer is about…

Vicky and I often run into these stories: “Writer submitted to 50 publishers before becoming published!” “Amazing writer’s tale: 100 queries before finding an agent!” “Unbelievable 75 submissions before publication!”
… right.
Listen, anyone who has taken a whack at being a writer knows that getting rejected is part of the game. It’s an important part. You have to be willing to get rejected to make any headway at all.
Case in point: I’m beginning to send out my recent mystery novel, Once Removed, for representation/publication. Yesterday, for instance, I sent out 27 submissions. By the end of the night, I already have four rejections.
“I’m sorry,” Vicky told me.
But she didn’t need to be. This is all part of the process. I’m trying to find someone to fall in love with my novel. Think of how difficult it is to find the love of your life and then consider how difficult it would be if they had to read your story… and then, consider how difficult it would be if their job was to read stories day in and day out.
Part of my job as a writer is to invite rejection. I get that.
So… the welcome mat is out. Rejections welcomed here…
