The Math of Rejection…

There must be a mathematical formula that expresses the fact that the closer someone is who rejects you, the more it hurts. Maybe RxD=P: (rejection) times (distance) equals (pain)? For instance, when a theater in Florida rejects my plays, I can deal with that. On the other hand, when I’m rejected by the theater up the street… dammmmn!
This must be universal for all art forms. Maybe it’s because you think of them as being close to you, both existentially and geographically. Maybe it’s also because you feel some shared interest. One way or the other, I have to think it’s not just me who feels this way.
Anyone else out there get this? Anyone?

CORRECTION: I just walked away and realized my math was WAY off. (I actually wrote the opposite of what I meant.) The formula should actually be R/D = P. (This way, as the distance gets smaller the sum grows.) I'm happy to see any refinements any math majors out there can provide!
